New Pole Fence

 

Rod has been working on putting up a new pole fence for Logan.  Lloyd Cahoon has been helping him and they are almost done around the yard and houses.  Logan wants him to put a pole fence around the
campground next.  It sure will be nice when it is done.

September 26, 2010 - Stray Dog

Yesterday morning I opened the door and there was a stray border collie dog standing outside.  I was hoping that if we just left it alone that it would go home. It stayed the day and when Shannon's kids came out to visit the dog was friendly and playful with the kids.  Natasha gave it the name of Marshmallow.  Last night was a terrible night as the dog decided to start barking around 2:00 a.m. and continued for about 2 hours.  It was barking and Buster was barking and I could hear the coyotes howling in the distance.  I couldn't sleep and was tossing and turning,  and then Rod started talking in his sleep.  He said something funny that made me just burst out laughing. What a night!!! This morning I have calling all around the neighborhood trying to find the owner of this  dog so that it can go home.

September 23-25 Cattle Roundup

Rod spent last Thursday to Saturday going up to the Pole Haven Community Pasture to round up his cattle from the bush.  He was able to get the majority on Thursday but was out a cow and a calf (which were not a pair)  meaning the cow did not come home with her calf, and a calf came home without it's mother.  He spent all day Friday looking for the lost cow and calf without success but on Saturday someone found both animals.  The cow was being stubborn because it did not want to come out and was looking for her calf  but it was eventually persuaded to come.  It is a relief to finally have everything at home.      

September 25, 2010 - Help!!!

Yesterday, I had to run to Lethbridge for the office and pick up a bank draft at the Scotiabank and deposit the funds to our Alberta Treasury Branches Trust account.  The last time I was in Lethbridge I saw  the Printshop Deluxe software program  at Walmart.  I thought that would be a great  program for my computer at home, so I bought the program while I was in Lethbridge yesterday.  I should  of just left well enough alone because I can't get the program to run after I load it  on my computer and in my attempt to free up space on my hard drive,  I believe I have really messed up other programs.  So the next time anyone comes  home be prepared to help me fix my problems.  

Buster

I took this picture of Buster soaking up the sun on one of the few good days we enjoyed last week.  Notice the new hair cut.  It costs $50.00 to get his hair cut and it need cut about every three months.  It's a good thing he is such a good natured and lovable dog.  He is sooooo spoiled!!

Sand Dunes September 2010

We couldn't have asked for better weather when we reached Rexburg.  When we went in May the weather was awful, cold and windy.  When we left Cardston for this trip it was foggy and raining and so  we took down our winter coats and a warm blanket.  Rod even packed his long underwear and had a toque in his bag but we forgot to pack sunscreen.  We heard it had even snowed while we were away. But where we were it was warm and nice and NO WIND.  We had a great time!!!

I rode out behind Rod so that I could take pictures of him riding his quad out on the big dunes.  I was going to upload the video of him riding his quad but I can't seem to get it to load, so I will just post a few pictures of him on the side of a sand dune and riding his quad.  I tried to take pictures of Scott jumping over the sand dunes but he jumped right out of the frame.

Change of Plans

Rod and I decided that we would not  leave for Rexburg on Wednesday because Rod has a feeder meeting tomorrow night that he cannot miss.  We decided that we would leave on Thursday instead.  I am still going to take work off tomorrow because I have all of  my bank reconciliations done and most of my work caught up.  It will be nice to have the extra day just to get ready.

Card Stock

Thank you Mar and Lindsey  for the card stock.  I opened the packages tonight and it was just like Christmas.  I was so excited.  Thank you!!  I haven't used my oval cutter yet but I will when I get back home from Rexburg.

Thank you Shannon for the return of my little table.  I was able to use it today when I had company for dinner.  You are the greatest!!!

Family Get Together

Mar and Lindsey came down  on Saturday night to bring down some parts for Rod's quad because  we are leaving this week to go to the sand dunes down in Rexburg.  We sure appreciate the time and effort of Lindsey and Mar this past week, to get the parts done, and especially that they brought them down so that we would have them before we leave on Wednesday.  THANK YOU A BUNCH for all your time and effort!!!   I have also been loading alot of Rod's CD's onto my computer this past week  and Mar loaded some of Rod's CD's last week onto her computer and then we were able to combine everything together on iTunes on this computer. We had a play list of over 1600 songs.  We then copied all Rod's favorites onto his new iPod that he bought about a month ago.    Now Rod had his own playlist so that next time we just have to add songs that he wants without ever having to undertake this project again.  I have been taking Rod's iPod when I go walking and it seems to make the time go faster. 

I woke up this morning and looked outside and the colors of the sunrise were beautiful.  I snapped a picture but it does not show the full effect of how beautiful it actually was.

Scott, Mandy and family came out today for a visit.  Each time I see their family they have grown.  Cason surprised us by sitting up all by himself.  It  seems like he was just born yesterday, but now he is sitting up all by himself.  How time flies!!!  Pretty soon he will be crawling.  The girls love to come out to the ranch to visit with their cousins and to go on quad rides with their grandpa and Buster the dog.

I don't know what we would do without our Sunday visits with Shannon, Steve and the girls.  We look forward each week to their visits and love our association with them.  I am so glad that they live close by. I don't know what I would do without them.  Thank you so much for everything you do for us.

Annual Leavitt Community Fair

After work on Friday I picked up Aidan, Leah and Natasha and took them to the fair with me so that Steve and Shannon could go out to dinner in Lethbridge.  The fair is usually held up to the Leavitt ball diamond where the kids can run and play to their hearts content, but because of inclement weather it was held in the gym of the  Leavitt church.  The highlights of the evening for the girls were the Astrojump, fishpond and Aidan really enjoyed the pie eating contest.  Aidan's face was covered in chocolate pudding as they had to eat the pudding with their hands behind their back.  There was also jars full of candy where you had to guess how many candies were in each jar.  Leah waited all evening in anticipation to see who would win the jars.  She was so excited when she won a jar filled with gum and chocolates. The evening would of been better outside but all in all the girls had a good time.   

Sometimes we put off going to the doctor's office  until we are in a lot of discomfort.  Lately my back and a muscle in my leg have been bothering me when I go for my walk and by the time I am almost home I am in a lot of discomfort.   I decided to bite the bullet and go see the doctor on Wednesday, and he gave me a muscle relaxer and instantly I have been feeling a lot better.  I don't know why I wait so long before I  go,  but I do.  I hate going to the dentist office also.  Oh well, that is just me!

Fun Long Weekend

I love long weekends but they go by way too fast.  It was great having Rob, Crystal, Samantha, Lindsey and Mar come to spend the weekend.  Saturday morning Rob, Lindsey and Mar went on  the Alderson Carthew  hike up to Waterton.  They started at Cameron Lake and walked 22 kilometers over and through the mountains and ended up at Cameron Falls.  I would of like to of joined them but I was afraid that I would not make it very far before running into back and hip problems.  Oh, to be young again!!!  Crystal and I also went up to Waterton  and spent the morning.  Crystal drove the hiking group to their starting point  so that they could leave their car at the ending point,  while Samantha and I stayed behind and  threw rocks in the water waiting for Crystal to come back.  Then we went for ice cream and looked at some of the shops before going back home.  I was able to find a birthday present for Samantha that she just loved.  I already gave it to her as Rod and I are going  to Rexburg the weekend before her birthday.

Sunday afternoon  we all went up to Waterton to join in for a wiener roast with Dan, Ruth, Wendy and Peter and their family and Dana and Roger and their family at the Palmer Cabin.   It rained most of the day on Sunday so we ended up staying inside, but the cabin was big and we all enjoyed the evening.   Lots of yummy food to eat and Ruth brought the biggest marshmallows that I have ever seen.  Shannon and Steve and their family was able to come up later in the evening because their church was in the afternoon.  I think this weekend, our church meeting time will  finally go back to the usually time because the work and  the paving of the  parking lot at the Stake Centre will finally be done.  

I have always felt that  to have a close family, it is  very important to strengthen and nourish that relationships.  My family on my mother's side was never very close.  As I was growing up, I have only met some of my aunts  and  uncles a couple of times and my grandmother lived in Calgary  and I did not see her very much,  and some of my cousins I have not met at all.  My grandfather died before I was born.   Maybe that is why I strongly encourage my children and grandchildren to create a strong bond with their siblings and for their kids to get to know their cousins and associate with them as much as possible.   I love  it when  my  children and grandchildren will go and visit with  their grandmothers and associate with them and include them in their activities as much as they can.  My own mother is now 92 years old and I try and go and visit with her during my lunch hour.  I believe it brightens up her day and lets her  know  how much I love and appreciate her.  I have also encouraged family members to attend family reunions when they can even though sometimes they are boring. 

Rook, Rook and more Rook.  I love it!!!  What more can I say!  I am so glad that my  kids will let me play with them although I am not very good.  I don't like the pressure of winning the bid!!

On Monday Rod showed Mar how to shoot  a bow and arrow.

Lindsey made wonderful spaghetti sauce and french bread while  Crystal made a delicious Caesar salad for lunch.  Thanks Lindsey for my secret weapon while we were playing Rook.  A beautiful parsley toothy grin!!!

My Day Off

I didn't have to go to work today, so I was going to stay home and get caught up  on a few things.  BUT just like  clockwork our power went  off at eight o'clock this morning and there went my idea of getting any work done.   So I got dressed and went for a walk.  It was a little chilly because  it rained last night but the mountains sure looked pretty and the air was really fresh and clear.  I took a few pictures of the mountains, but the pictures just didn't turn out like what you see with the naked eye.  I also took some pictures of  the hawk that has been evading me all summer long  and  he didn't co-operate this morning either.    As I got closer he flew a little further away.

Tonight Rod, Audrey and I went to Diane and Dee Olsen's home for the Leavitt Seniors steak and corn bust.  It was really an enjoyable evening  to associate with , and be a part of,  the older generation in the area.
